Dear Festival friends,
for the past nineteen years, The World Bodypainting Festival has been an integral part of the cultural and touristic events calendar in Carinthia.
For six of those years the festival has hosted thousands of participants and visitors to Pörtschach at Lake Woerthersee.
Due to the increasing burden of the residents and their complaints, as well as the high costs of infrastructure we are no longer able to continue at the current location.
2017 will signal the 20th Anniversary of The World Bodypainting Festival.

Snake woman reflects the connection between man and environment
Nina Burri lets herself be painted by US artist for 8 hours

Bare skin, lots of paint and breakneck contortions: American artist Johny Dar recently painted snake woman Nina Burri. Swiss photographer Frederic Auerbach captured the body painting spectacle at the B2B Hotel in Zurich.

The jeans hero is back: two years ago, US artist Johny Dar pimped old jeans of world stars for his aid project "Jeans for Refugees" and thus attracted international attention. Now he is on the road with a new project and is making a stop in Switzerland, the country of his heart. For this, snake woman Nina Burri frees herself. With artistic adornments on her bare skin, she contorts her body and poses for Swiss photographer Frederic Auerbach, who now lives in Los Angeles.

Connection between man and environment
The U.S. artist began planning his body painting series six years ago. The starting signal was given in 2021. In different countries, he wants to paint different models during two years. "The idea behind it is that we represent the connection between people and the environment with a series of photographs," says Johny Dar. The photographs will be published as NFTs. In addition, the images will be printed on garments, becoming wearable art. "I think it's important to be aware of our relationships with our fellow human beings and where we stand in this world," says Nina Burri.

Colorful personality
The body painting project required a lot of patience. The snake woman was painted from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. - a full 8.5 hours. During this time, Nina Burri had to remain calm and was not allowed to move as much as possible. An ordeal for the contortionist: "For a moment I thought we would never finish," she says. Johny Dar and four makeup artists were at work with the drawing, transforming the 45-year-old into a different personality. The result was worth being patient for. "Johny said that his drawings always reflect the personality of the model. Thus, I guess I am a very colorful personality," says the snake woman with satisfaction.

Love after the first photo
The fact that Johny Dar works with a Swiss photographer is no coincidence. The two creative minds met in Los Angeles. The US artist fell in love with Frederic Auerbach's photos right away. "My intention behind body art is to reveal the soul under the skin, and that's exactly what Frederic does," says Johny Dar.

Julia spoke about origins of Persian Dance, including Zoroastrian Rites and how it became known as the Entertainment Dance in non-industrial world.
Dance is considered to be the full expression of the freedom of the body. Obviously, Persian dance bares the influence of Rumi, who brings up dance as the analogy of the soul uniting with the Universe

Nina Burri lets herself be painted by US artist for 8 hours

Bare skin, lots of paint and breakneck contortions: American artist Johny Dar recently painted snake woman Nina Burri. Swiss photographer Frederic Auerbach captured the body painting spectacle at the B2B Hotel in Zurich.

The jeans hero is back: two years ago, US artist Johny Dar pimped old jeans of world stars for his aid project "Jeans for Refugees" and thus attracted international attention. Now he is on the road with a new project and is making a stop in Switzerland, the country of his heart. For this, snake woman Nina Burri frees herself. With artistic adornments on her bare skin, she contorts her body and poses for Swiss photographer Frederic Auerbach, who now lives in Los Angeles.

Connection between man and environment
The U.S. artist began planning his body painting series six years ago. The starting signal was given in 2021. In different countries, he wants to paint different models during two years. "The idea behind it is that we represent the connection between people and the environment with a series of photographs," says Johny Dar. The photographs will be published as NFTs. In addition, the images will be printed on garments, becoming wearable art. "I think it's important to be aware of our relationships with our fellow human beings and where we stand in this world," says Nina Burri.

Colorful personality
The body painting project required a lot of patience. The snake woman was painted from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. - a full 8.5 hours. During this time, Nina Burri had to remain calm and was not allowed to move as much as possible. An ordeal for the contortionist: "For a moment I thought we would never finish," she says. Johny Dar and four makeup artists were at work with the drawing, transforming the 45-year-old into a different personality. The result was worth being patient for. "Johny said that his drawings always reflect the personality of the model. Thus, I guess I am a very colorful personality," says the snake woman with satisfaction.

Love after the first photo
The fact that Johny Dar works with a Swiss photographer is no coincidence. The two creative minds met in Los Angeles. The US artist fell in love with Frederic Auerbach's photos right away. "My intention behind body art is to reveal the soul under the skin, and that's exactly what Frederic does," says Johny Dar.

for the past nineteen years, The World Bodypainting Festival has been an integral part of the cultural and touristic events calendar in Carinthia.
For six of those years the festival has hosted thousands of participants and visitors to Pörtschach at Lake Woerthersee.
Due to the increasing burden of the residents and their complaints, as well as the high costs of infrastructure we are no longer able to continue at the current location.
2017 will signal the 20th Anniversary of The World Bodypainting Festival.

Hoy viví una de las entrevistas más conmovedoras y transformadoras que he tenido en Cara a Cara. Mi invitada fue Lourdes del Río, una periodista de trayectoria impecable, con más de tres décadas de experiencia, pero sobre todo, una mujer que ha sabido enfrentar los golpes más duros de la vida con valentía, fe y una sonrisa en el alma. Conversar con ella fue un recordatorio de que el dolor no nos define, pero sí puede transformarnos profundamente si lo enfrentamos desde el amor y la gratitud.

Desde el primer minuto me impactó su energía. Lourdes me habló sin filtros de los momentos más difíciles de su vida: su diagnóstico de cáncer de seno, la ruptura de su matrimonio en medio del tratamiento y el profundo deseo no cumplido de ser madre. A pesar de todo, me dijo con firmeza: “Estoy en mi segunda oportunidad y le estoy sacando el jugo”. Esa frase se me quedó grabada.

Me relató cómo, justo cuando regresaba de cuidar a su tía —una sobreviviente de cáncer—, recibió la llamada que cambiaría su vida: su mamografía era sospechosa. Después de múltiples exámenes, confirmaron el diagnóstico. Me impactó cómo enfrentó la noticia: con calma, con fe, sin dejarse paralizar. Tomó el control de su tratamiento desde el primer momento y se rodeó de una red de apoyo que ella misma organizó, a la que llamó Los Ángeles de Luli. Su historia con Cristina, la enfermera que la acompañó desde el inicio, fue simplemente hermosa.

Lo más poderoso de esta conversación fue ver cómo Lourdes convirtió el cáncer en un regalo: en una llamada de atención para amarse más, para aceptar ayuda, para dejarse querer. Me confesó que antes no permitía que nadie la cuidara o le regalara nada. Aprendió que recibir también es un acto de generosidad. “Yo daba mucho, pero no sabía recibir”, me dijo, con una honestidad que me estremeció.

Además, nos compartió cómo tomó la valiente decisión de raparse frente a las cámaras. No fue fácil, pero lo hizo para inspirar, para mostrar que la calvicie no le quitaba su poder, ni su belleza, ni su esencia. En ese gesto, Lourdes reafirmó que no somos nuestro cuerpo, ni nuestro pelo, ni nuestras cicatrices. Somos mucho más.

Terminamos la entrevista hablando de fe, de amor propio y de cómo el éxito no está en lo que alcanzamos, sino en cómo decidimos vivir. Lourdes no solo venció el cáncer; ella lo resignificó. Hoy está más viva, más luminosa y más clara en su propósito: inspirar a otros a vivir en positivo.
Si alguien necesitaba una prueba de que los milagros existen y caminan entre nosotros, hoy la tuvo. Lourdes del Río es uno de ellos.

Bodypainting Day impacts everyone involved from the artists and the models to the thousands that watch it live to the millions that see it on-line.

We stretch the boundaries of what is permitted, what is appropriate, what is art and what is an acceptable body (they all are). It gives people a sense of power and we all share in something that breaks all the rules and creates an even playing field.

Huge groups of nude models are painted by talented artists in the most public spaces in cities around the world.
60 artists and 60 models come to New York's Washington Square Park. After four hours of painting, we have a photo shoot at the iconic Arch, a march through Greenwich Village and a double-decker bus tour to share with the art with the rest of the New York City!

For four hours, visitors to New York's Times Square got an eyeful when two hundred nude models put themselves on display as part of a nude body painting exhibit on Friday. The models descended upon Times Square to participate in New York City artist Andy Golub's latest exhibit, 'Body Notes,' during which their naked bodies were turned into colorful canvases featuring statements aimed at creating 'a powerful expression of positivity and acceptance,' During the exhibit, nude models were painted a base color and then emblazoned with a statement of their choosing, ranging from phrases like 'Art is free' and 'Friends make the world go round' to 'My body my art' and 'Ask me why I love my body.'

About me:
IT ALL STARTED…
When NYC Bodypainter Trina Merry was struck by lightning in Hollywood, it altered the course of her life. Everything turned white and there was a loud buzzing sound as the lighting filled her car. The most incredible aching sensation shot through her bones. Suffering from continuous a painful ache in her bones whenever she was near power lines or any electrical wires, she escaped to the sheltering forest of Yosemite National Park hoping for a reprieve. She spent a year painting by a little stream where she made friends with the local deer.

It was during this time that she had a few glasses of absinthe with Amanda Palmer (the Dresden Dolls, TED Talks). Palmer encouraged Trina to stand onstage and get body painted with the Dolls opening act- an Australian synesthesia art-rock band called “The Red Paintings”. While wearing a silver mask that shot laser beams out into the audience, she experienced complete strangers painting her body with brightly colored space toys. Something sparked: Art had a heartbeat. Art could be vulnerable. Art was… happening.

Trina Merry has performed and exhibited at the Whitney Biennial, San Jose Museum of Art with Andy Goldsworthy, Attleboro Arts Museum, ESMoA, Museo De Bardini (Florence), Edward Hopper House, Red Dot Miami, Superfine! Art Fair, Satellite Art Show, WORKS San Jose & SOMArts alongside the Guerilla Girls. Her initial exhibition of "Lust of Currency" at the LES arts collective "Con Artist" sold out in only three days. She was a summer resident at Robert Wilson's Watermill Center, apprentice to Skin Wars judge Craig Tracy and has a BFA in film.

Hoy viví una de las entrevistas más conmovedoras y transformadoras que he tenido en Cara a Cara. Mi invitada fue Lourdes del Río, una periodista de trayectoria impecable, con más de tres décadas de experiencia, pero sobre todo, una mujer que ha sabido enfrentar los golpes más duros de la vida con valentía, fe y una sonrisa en el alma. Conversar con ella fue un recordatorio de que el dolor no nos define, pero sí puede transformarnos profundamente si lo enfrentamos desde el amor y la gratitud.

Desde el primer minuto me impactó su energía. Lourdes me habló sin filtros de los momentos más difíciles de su vida: su diagnóstico de cáncer de seno, la ruptura de su matrimonio en medio del tratamiento y el profundo deseo no cumplido de ser madre. A pesar de todo, me dijo con firmeza: “Estoy en mi segunda oportunidad y le estoy sacando el jugo”. Esa frase se me quedó grabada.

Me relató cómo, justo cuando regresaba de cuidar a su tía —una sobreviviente de cáncer—, recibió la llamada que cambiaría su vida: su mamografía era sospechosa. Después de múltiples exámenes, confirmaron el diagnóstico. Me impactó cómo enfrentó la noticia: con calma, con fe, sin dejarse paralizar. Tomó el control de su tratamiento desde el primer momento y se rodeó de una red de apoyo que ella misma organizó, a la que llamó Los Ángeles de Luli. Su historia con Cristina, la enfermera que la acompañó desde el inicio, fue simplemente hermosa.

Lo más poderoso de esta conversación fue ver cómo Lourdes convirtió el cáncer en un regalo: en una llamada de atención para amarse más, para aceptar ayuda, para dejarse querer. Me confesó que antes no permitía que nadie la cuidara o le regalara nada. Aprendió que recibir también es un acto de generosidad. “Yo daba mucho, pero no sabía recibir”, me dijo, con una honestidad que me estremeció.

Además, nos compartió cómo tomó la valiente decisión de raparse frente a las cámaras. No fue fácil, pero lo hizo para inspirar, para mostrar que la calvicie no le quitaba su poder, ni su belleza, ni su esencia. En ese gesto, Lourdes reafirmó que no somos nuestro cuerpo, ni nuestro pelo, ni nuestras cicatrices. Somos mucho más.

Terminamos la entrevista hablando de fe, de amor propio y de cómo el éxito no está en lo que alcanzamos, sino en cómo decidimos vivir. Lourdes no solo venció el cáncer; ella lo resignificó. Hoy está más viva, más luminosa y más clara en su propósito: inspirar a otros a vivir en positivo.
Si alguien necesitaba una prueba de que los milagros existen y caminan entre nosotros, hoy la tuvo. Lourdes del Río es uno de ellos.

Bodypainting Day impacts everyone involved from the artists and the models to the thousands that watch it live to the millions that see it on-line.

We stretch the boundaries of what is permitted, what is appropriate, what is art and what is an acceptable body (they all are). It gives people a sense of power and we all share in something that breaks all the rules and creates an even playing field.

Huge groups of nude models are painted by talented artists in the most public spaces in cities around the world.
60 artists and 60 models come to New York's Washington Square Park. After four hours of painting, we have a photo shoot at the iconic Arch, a march through Greenwich Village and a double-decker bus tour to share with the art with the rest of the New York City!

For four hours, visitors to New York's Times Square got an eyeful when two hundred nude models put themselves on display as part of a nude body painting exhibit on Friday. The models descended upon Times Square to participate in New York City artist Andy Golub's latest exhibit, 'Body Notes,' during which their naked bodies were turned into colorful canvases featuring statements aimed at creating 'a powerful expression of positivity and acceptance,' During the exhibit, nude models were painted a base color and then emblazoned with a statement of their choosing, ranging from phrases like 'Art is free' and 'Friends make the world go round' to 'My body my art' and 'Ask me why I love my body.'

About me:
IT ALL STARTED…
When NYC Bodypainter Trina Merry was struck by lightning in Hollywood, it altered the course of her life. Everything turned white and there was a loud buzzing sound as the lighting filled her car. The most incredible aching sensation shot through her bones. Suffering from continuous a painful ache in her bones whenever she was near power lines or any electrical wires, she escaped to the sheltering forest of Yosemite National Park hoping for a reprieve. She spent a year painting by a little stream where she made friends with the local deer.

It was during this time that she had a few glasses of absinthe with Amanda Palmer (the Dresden Dolls, TED Talks). Palmer encouraged Trina to stand onstage and get body painted with the Dolls opening act- an Australian synesthesia art-rock band called “The Red Paintings”. While wearing a silver mask that shot laser beams out into the audience, she experienced complete strangers painting her body with brightly colored space toys. Something sparked: Art had a heartbeat. Art could be vulnerable. Art was… happening.

Trina Merry has performed and exhibited at the Whitney Biennial, San Jose Museum of Art with Andy Goldsworthy, Attleboro Arts Museum, ESMoA, Museo De Bardini (Florence), Edward Hopper House, Red Dot Miami, Superfine! Art Fair, Satellite Art Show, WORKS San Jose & SOMArts alongside the Guerilla Girls. Her initial exhibition of "Lust of Currency" at the LES arts collective "Con Artist" sold out in only three days. She was a summer resident at Robert Wilson's Watermill Center, apprentice to Skin Wars judge Craig Tracy and has a BFA in film.

Artists came together to paint nude models from head to toe during the 9th annual New York City Bodypainting Day inside Union Square Park in New York City . The event which is sponsored by Human Connection Arts, featured 40 artists painting 60 models in full view of the public. This year's theme is Hope.

All the clips used in this video were filmed today in Washington Square Park in Downtown Manhattan. This has been my second experience of body painting day.

It was a combination of two arts - human body, art by mother nature, and colorful painting - art by human beings. The message of the organizers and the models seemed to be: whatever its shape, size, color, or age might be, we do love our own body - with or without the bondage of clothes. It was a celebration of that love. The effusive models with their raw bodies wearing nothing but colorful brushstrokes, the beelines of onlookers and photographers, the intoxicating summer weather of Washington Square Park - all made it 'a huge'.

The event for the year 2023 took place in July 23 and it is said to be last event of this kind in New York. Andy Golub said he wanted to find different ways of empowering and bringing people together, including a new event next spring.

On May 3rd 2013 at EVR, (Located at 54 West 39th Street) I put on an exhibit that was focused on the energy of the city. During the art exhibit I offered live body painting on two spectacular models. This is not the regular body painting that you see in clubs, this is an extension of the art exhibition. Instead of canvas I will paint on the model's toned bodies! This is an ART EXHIBIT. Art takes many forms and I want to show that my art is alive, on canvas or beyond!
This spring I splurge on vivid colors, accents of fuchsia, neon pink, purples in contrast with black and whites.
In the art and fashion capital of the world New York City, I, Alexandra I am bold! I have a say in the art and fashion show scene and I am not afraid to show it! I like to combine classic painting, acrylic on canvas with the energy of the moment and that is how these events are born. The pulse of the city, the fashion trends, the inner thoughts are transcended in this collection, "Dangerous Floral". The fashion shows are more and more in demand and very few people are excited about paintings unless, we the Artists we will show the public that ART is Not boring! Art is spectacular! Paintings last forever. Paintings can be in the spotlight! This is my belief! My paintings are fashionable! I follow or better said I am inspired by fashion trends. I corrected the word "follow" because I do not follow anything, I am a Leader. I can be inspired but never follow a trend just because is there. I need to believe in to create a story!

Body Painting Day 2017
This is the 4th Annual Body painting day here in NYC. This event was started by Andy and Carrol Golub and has been a haven for artist to express their work on human canvases with temporary body paint. Their non profit organization is Human connection Arts.
This video is my Time lapse experience through pictures of the entire event. It starts from my arrival to the event, registration, to the starting with their artists and the models being painting. The various stations. Next to the Arch and fountain in Washington Square Park. Next bringing joy and laugher and smiles as we walk through the streets to the double decker bus where we traveled all over midtown making people smile and laugh then the last stop was to to the after party at Webster Hall. #HCANYC17 #Gregoryvalentineanimations
This was an amazing event. All the body paintng events are amazing experiences.

This event was protected as artwork by New York City and it allowed for the presentation of humans in our most basic form to be painted by breathable paint. This stands as a testimony to Almighty God the creator of all things living, as a testament to Adam and Eve and how we were originally made to live in the garden of Eden. This is truth of how God sees us always, even as we do our best to hide our true form from each other due to fear of rejection, ridicule or embarrassment. Another note, it takes a brave soul to cast off the outer constraints of what stifles us in fear and that which hides us, to allow ourselves to be painted by strangers in front of other strangers. This was a lesson in trust and confidence. They, The brave humans, who stood unmasked showed the world that they, like us, are all the same. The environment and temperature was that of respect positivity and friendliness. That was the first official painting session, I had ever seen in person. Andy Golub brings quality artwork and an environment of respect. It's not just people standing naked alone, but its actually living canvasses and people standing together, who are designed by God with a temporary design, from another artist.

I was in Times Square minding my own business when out of nowhere I see two painted naked bodies, walking towards me. Naturally I engaged them in conversation and learned they were a part of a group of bodies being painted as part as an human art exhibit, and that I could find more of them if I kept walking... So, I did. I must confessed that I was shocked a little bit :) but wanted to document the event, so I endured :) the nude scenes so that I could share it with you... enjoy it! Or not! Paz.

BODYART IN MEXICO CITY
Twenty-two artists gathered in Mexico City's Art Museum on Saturday to exhibit their work on the human body.
Working on naked models, actors, dancers and singers, the Mexican artists displayed their creative vision in front of hundreds of visitors during the two-day exhibition in the Mexican capital.
According to exhibit organisers, one of their objectives was to allow artists and the public to experiment with the international art form known as body painting.
One of the models said she thought that people were ready for this type of art form.
The first Mexican exhibition of body painting opened last year at the Chopo University Museum in Mexico City, featuring 15 artists.

Dozens of artists and models shed their clothes and painted their bodies for the annual Body Painting day in Manhattan on Sunday. (July 25 2021)

Stripped completely naked, 45 models were painted from head to toe by 26 artists in Union Square.
The event is organized by Andy Golub, who 10 years ago, was arrested along with his model for nude bodypainting in Times Square.
Several hundred people gathered to watch the models be painted. And as the crowd marched onlookers gawked. Some rolled their eyes, some people were shocked but most had a smile on their face when the saw the human canvasses pass.
The group marched from Union Square to Washington Square Park and were followed by a massive crowd of amateur and professional photographers, all clamoring for the best shot.

Welcome to the best of NY bodypaiting day!

Body painting, or sometimes bodypainting, is a form of body art. Unlike tattoo and other forms of body art, body painting is temporary, painted onto the human skin, and lasts for only several hours, or at most (in the case of Mehndi or "henna tattoo") a couple of weeks. Body painting that is limited to the face is known as face painting. Body painting is also referred to as (a form of) "temporary tattoo"; large scale or full-body painting is more commonly referred to as body painting, while smaller or more detailed work can sometimes be referred to as temporary tattoos.

The Body Painting Day "The Artist's Voice" in New York City took place on Sunday, July 23, 2023. After the body painting was finished, the participating artists and models marched through Greenwich Village, posed for a photo in Washington Square Park, rode a double-decker bus over the Manhattan Bridge, and ended the day with a party in Brooklyn.

Human Connection Arts is a non-profit organization founded by artist Andy Golub that promotes acceptance of all people and gives a platform for artists through large scale public art events. Andy Golub has been painting on nude models since 2007 and started the annual body painting extravaganza to underscore that nudity for artistic purposes is legal in New York City.

The event began as a celebration of art and humanity, where models were painted with ornate designs using theatrical makeup, and the participants were fully nude. Over the years, the event took place at various locations around New York City, even during the COVID-19 pandemic with safety precautions in place.

Andy Golub started the event with the intention of spreading joy and celebrating humanity. He wanted to promote unity, acceptance, and love through public art and embraced a wide array of body types, aiming to showcase diversity rather than conforming to traditional beauty standards.

Body Painting Day 2023 was the final edition of the annual event in New York City after more than a decade of artists turning nude bodies into works of art. The event took place in Manhattan’s Union Square, where more than 50 people were painted over four hours.

Despite the event's success and significance, Andy Golub decided to retire NYC Bodypainting Day to explore new ways of sharing his artistic message. He has plans for future projects, such as creating an event called BodyFest Spring 2024.

The 2017 Australian Body Art Festival in Cooroy, SE Qld was a riot of colour, amazing artists and beautiful models. The 2 day festival held on 8th & 9th April was a massive success with over 7000 visitors attending the free festival in it's 1st year at it's new home of Cooroy.
Artists came from Interstate and overseas to compete in Brush & Sponge, Airbrush, Face painting, Special effects and Wearable Art competitions over the weekend.
