Fabergé Masterpieces & Rare Gold Boxes | Treasures from Castle Howard at Sotheby’s
Sotheby’s is delighted to present a significant collection of Fabergé and objects of vertu from Castle Howard, one of the most magnificent groups of Fabergé animals in private hands. With parallels to the Sandringham collection of Fabergé animals commissioned for King Edward VII and Queen Alexandra in 1907, now held in the Royal Collection, the animal studies assembled at Castle Howard epitomise Fabergé’s unrivalled craftsmanship and creativity.
This sale also includes important gold boxes from a private European collection, assembled over several decades and encompassing extraordinary eighteenth century snuff boxes made in Paris, London, Geneva and Vienna. Gold boxes from the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries are further represented in the second part of the sale – around 100 gold boxes from the Alan and Simone Hartman collection will be offered as a continuation of the enormous success of the first A Park Avenue Treasury sale in New York in June 2024.
Celebrating three centuries of craftmanship, the curated auction brings together the best works of art of the lapidary, the goldsmith and the enameller from the eighteenth to the twentieth centuries.
The auction takes place at Sotheby's Geneva from 6 - 16 May.
